So much hate & heartaches going on that’ll make even a seasoned reader flinch & squirm. well written story, despite the hardcore demoralizing things inflicted on both H/H (esp the heroine) & the distasteful series of cheating. The 2 stars were for the fact that I read the epic saga from cover to cover & it’s a v. I didn’t think this shoulda been categorized as ‘romance’, it reads more like a historical fiction & an antidote to ‘romance’. H/H ended up w/ a dubious HEA, but I just wasn’t sure if the vicious cycle wouldn’t continue off screen (the string of atrocities the hero committed & endless dire circumstances befallen Kit made me wonder). How in holy hell Kit’s sanity & physical being could survive intact w/ 1 paralyzing terror after another, was a miracle indeed. Just when I thought things could not have gotten worse for the heroine, they did. Of all forbidden-luv theme I’ve read the last 16 yrs, this was probably the most memorable 1, not in a good way tho’, thanx to the slew of appalling, shudders-inducing, stomach-churning experiences heroine suffered thru’. The names and pronouns are left blank and the pages are left uncolored. "Never Doubt You're Loved: My Kind of Family" is a unique children's book in that it arrives waiting for your child to customize it. This powerful message resonates deeply with children of all ages and will give them the tools to self-soothe and calm when they experience emotions that are similar to the child in the story. The child lies awake, feeling lonely and unable to relax however, recalling all of the special ways that they experienced love throughout the day leads them to realize that they are never alone. In "Never Doubt You're Loved: My Kind of Family," your child will be presented with a situation that he or she is likely familiar with-being unable to fall asleep at night. "Never Doubt You're Loved: My Kind of Family" is a book that goes beyond the basic children's story by making your family the stars, allowing your child to deeply interact with the text while learning its important message. Children can learn valuable lessons from books written just for them, and the more deeply that they can identify with the characters that the story introduces, the more impact its lesson can have. Rafe seems alright but I would love to have a female YA character say 'Go away dude, I have the world's best boyfriend so go take your sparkly eyes and hot bod to some other chick.' What I mean is Violet is awesome, Jay is sexy, and Rafe better not get involved. I love that certain characters have developed but I don't want any steps back here. Violet and Jay don't get into any stupid fights like in Desires of the Dead (Cause their fight really bugged me) Jay takes his pants off (Where am I going with this?) Rafe hits on Vi but she doesn't even give him the time of day And I honestly don't want this to happen! JAY + VIOLET! They're perfect! Let them stay together! I don't like Rafe because I have a feeling Kimberly Derting's going to pull a Twilight and throw in a love triangle. Okay, one particularly specific issue in mind: Even though I'm so incredibly excited for this book to come out, I've got a few issues that I'm worrying about. "This letter," I said, "is from the office of the head librarian downtown." I removed a sheet of paper and handed it over slowly. I reached for a paper folder at the far end of the table, and the cop standing over me let his right hand drift toward his holster. "Library throws away thousands of books every year." "Front'a each page marked discarded," I said, editing out all unnecessary words as I spoke. "Stole 'em?" the dark-haired cop asked from across the room. I was sitting in my favorite swivel chair behind the makeshift table-desk that I used for book sales and purchases. "Where'd you get all these books, son?" the other cop asked, looking down on me. The dark one wandered around the room, flipping through random books, looking, it seemed, for some kind of contraband. One had dark hair and the other sported freckles. I hadn't called them, of course a black man has to think twice before calling the cops in Watts. MY USED-BOOK STORE had been open for just about a month when the police showed up. It explains the political and social context which drove Ehrenreich and English to pen the original manuscript and presents their hypothesis that women have been systematically disempowered when it comes to both their traditional roles as healers and their understanding of their own bodies. This introduction contextualizes the original manuscript, written in the 1970s, and updates some of the authors’ initial assertions based on more recent scholarship. The 2010 edition of Witches, Midwives, and Nurses: A History of Women Healers (WMN) opens with a new introduction by the authors. Witches, Midwives, and Nurses: A History of Women Healers. The following version of the book was used to create this study guide: Ehrenreich, Barbara and Deidre English. Though historical events up to and including the February Revolution take place in the background, Feo’s harrowing journey is the story’s focus. Off she sets on a seemingly quixotic rescue, with beloved semiferal charges Black, White, and Gray (“a bunch of the most beautiful criminals”), a newly born wolf pup, 13-year-old army deserter Ilya, and growing bands of children and disaffected villagers in her wake. Mikail Rakov, declaring that wolves are all vermin, descends to burn the cabin and hustle her mother off to Kresty Prison in the city. Feo’s idyll comes to a sudden end when brutal, sadistic Gen. Petersburg, 12-year-old Feodora, “a dark and stormy girl,” and her strong mother, Marina Petrovich, take wolves that have grown too dangerous for the aristocratic households in which they have been raised from captured cubs and train them to live on their own in the wild. A young Russian who has known more wolves in her life than people sets out to rescue her mother from a czarist prison. It’s a story of identity, of growing up too fast, of love, loss, longing, innocence and experience. It’s a coming-of-age story, a tale of how was is hell while also containing moments of levity and actions in turn brutal and heartwarming. It tells a good story on, as another critic noted, “the molecular level” by focusing on a select few characters and their experiences living during the American Civil War. This is a great story to listen to when going to bed or in the car. Here’s hoping this time round it gets the wider recognition it deserves. My only complaint is that he whispers for female characters, which is less convincing and lacks realism. Tragic, disturbing, poignant, picaresque and subversively funny - the work of a truly gifted writer who takes no prisoners. The narrator uses inflection to differentiate between characters. After watching the film (which is great), I purchased the audio version of Ride With The Devil and it and the narrator are vastly entertaining! The narrator’s voice has a nice Southern twang and as other reviewers have said, this is a great example of the perfect combination of story and narration.
